Always interested in spirituality and finding out the ‘meaning of life’, Charles spent seven years after graduating high school in what he eventually realized was a cult. However, during this time, he deeply explored meditation, mysticism, Buddhism and Hinduism, which gave him profound and invaluable insights at a young age into ways of viewing life and its challenges that served him for years thereafter. 

 

After leaving the group and rebuilding his life, it was years later that he again returned to art as a means of healing and processing, via artistic expression, many of the issues he had encountered and survived. 

 

Painting became a means to convey aspects of himself and his moods and feelings, and through this medium, it has allowed him to express experiences without the constraints of language. His art continues to be an exploration and an evolving journey for him, moving always toward a more refined expression in his painting (in this case acrylics) to engage in a wordless dialogue with the viewer, presenting a certain mood or feeling via his art, which is difficult to convey in language.
